Fairbanks Airport

The only other airport that comes close to this is the old one in Coimbatore (1988).
This airport is as small, and gives is a very old feel to it. mm, now that I think
of it, it's pretty similar to the Long Beach airport too.

They have tried to make this one a little bit of a museum as well, which makes it
rather interesting.

By the way, this post is day 300.

Runway

This is the 'active' runway at Chena Hot Springs. In Alaska, every house has one (or
two) cars, and a boat. Every second house has a plane, and every clearing that's
half the length of this one is technically a runway. It's really the last frontier...

Eskimo Family

The center of town is marked by this waterfall/sculpture. It's a nice one, of a
family of eskimoes and their dog. I tried to get creative with the waterfall, and
this is the best of the shots. It's not spectacular, but then, I was holding
the camera by hand. I forgot to take my tripod over there...

You've got Mail

I found these mailboxes lined up and ready to be photographed when we were
driving to Chena Hot Springs. They were all decked up, and the spot was
rather picturesque even without them.

Alaska really is a beautiful place...

Sunset on the banks of the Chena

I took this shot from my hotel window. I think I did a decent job, considering I don't
have any talent behind the camera. The sunsets here are rather pretty, and the
landscape is unparalleled.

Alaskan Pipeline

This is the famous Alaskan Pipeline. And yeah, parts of this line is now shutdown
due to gross incompetence of the Oil Company that runs it. It's an impressive
feat though, and was completed in less than 2 years. The pipeline is part elevated
as the oil in it is between 50 and 70 degrees C. This could thaw the permafrost
and make the pipeline unstable otherwise.

It runs around 800 miles from end to end.

Capt. Barnette

This chap stepped out of a steamer over a hundred years ago, to set up a shop.
And now, the place is a big city. Actually, lots of cities in the West coast have a
similar story. But Fairbanks is no where as big a city as anything else. Then again,
it's in Alaska, while the others were in Continental US.
